Second Royal Yacht to be berthed in Leith Harbour

Many Leithers are proud that the Royal Yacht Britannia is berthed in Leith Harbour, well now the Royal Yacht is to be joined by a second Royal Yacht, The Bloodhound!

The racing yacht was once owned by the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh and is due into its new home in Edinburgh to become a tourist attraction.

The BBC website claims it has sailed into the Harbour already, but this shipping website is not showing it and I cannot see it from my windows or balcony.

The Bloodhound is a massive 63ft (19.2m) and will be berthed alongside the Royal Yacht Britannia, which is well worth a visit if you haven't already done so.

The Bloodhound was built for US huntsman Isaac Bell in 1936, and was bought by the Queen and Duke of Edinburgh in 1962.

The 74 year old Bloodhound was sold to The Royal Yacht Britannia Trust earlier this year by Tony and Cindy McGrail, who have spent four years restoring it.

The sailing yacht has had numerous racing victories include the Morgan Cup in 1936, the North Sea Race in 1949 and 1951, and the Lyme Bay Race in 1959 and 1965.

So, come to Leith Harbour, shortly to be home to two former Royal Yacht's.

What abeautiful sunrise over Britannia and Leith Harbour in Edinburgh

Wow, what an absolutely gorgeous sunrise today, also an anniversary for me, it is one year ago today that we were starting polling day in the Glenrothes by-election.

This is the view from my flat and I wanted to share it with you this morning. That is Leith Harbour the former Royal Yacht Britannia and the Ocean Terminal shopping centre.

Le Grand Bleu Yacht update

As many of my regular readers will know I blogged in August about this fascinating boat, and if you scroll under the actual blog posting many of you have been keeping us all up to date with the future travels of Le Grand Bleu after it left Leith Harbour here in Edinburgh.

No sightings though since it left Sandown Bay 5 days ago, so if anyone knows where it is please let us know as there are a few of my readers following it, if only for fun.

Le Grand Bleu leaves Leith

For the past week Leith Harbour has been the home of billionaire plaything Le Grand Bleu, a stunning yacht with heli pad and helicopter, sailing yacht and speedboat all part of the deal.

Le Grand Bleu is one of the largest private yachts in the world, measuring a massive 370 feet, weighing 5,500 tonnes and is said to be worth about £150 million. This picture isn't the best, it was from my phone http://mypict.me/mpQk

The yacht was built in Bremenand and launched back in 2000 with a crew of 50, it costs around £6 million a year to operate and was previously owned by Chelsea owner, Roman Abramovich who it is rumoured gave the Le Grand Bleu to his friend, Russian oil billionaire Eugene Shvidler, who it appears is still the owner.

The owner apparently was attending the Edinburgh Tattoo.

Anyway, earlier this evening Le Grand Bleu left Leith harbour for it's next destination.
